Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

In the 2018 to 2019 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each pupil registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years:

Schools will receive £2,300 for any pupil:

For pupils who attract the £2,300 rate, the virtual school head of the local authority that looks after the pupil will manage the funding.

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. Schools are however, held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.

At Ann Cam Primary School, we aim to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils using a three tiered approach to spending the Pupil Premium allowance (as described by the Education Endowment Foundation):

1) The main focus for the funding is to ensure children have access to high-quality teaching as this will have the greatest impact on our young learners' attainment.  For this, we develop key priorities and work as a team to ensure these can be met.  This includes a commitment from all stakeholders at the school to supporting the development of effective teaching practice.

2) Interventions are then used to supplement high-quality teaching and include targeted support for children not making the expected progress.

3) Whole-school strategies are then considered; these may includes ways to develop attitudes and behaviour that are advantageous for learning.

As a team, we are committed to providing the best learning experience for all children; we are aware that there are many barriers to achievement and we aim to build resilient, self-motivated learners who can overcome the challenges they are experiencing when provided with the correct, evidence-based support.
