Swimming Pool

The PTFAs biggest role outside of fundraising is to maintain and run the school outdoor swimming pool, which is used to provide swimming lessons for the pupils, twice a week during the summer term.

The swimming pool sub-committee members (comprising parents and members of the teaching staff) are responsible for the day to day running of the school swimming pool. Around spring time the core members of the sub-committee are required to undertake a two day training course covering every aspect of running and maintaining a swimming pool.

Prior to the start of the summer term the pool area is tidied, changing room cleaned and the pool readied for use. It takes around two weeks to get the chemical balance correct so the pool ready for use. The pool is independently tested once a month.

While the pool is open for use the chemicals are checked three times a day and the changing rooms regularly cleaned.
The pool sub-committee and helpers also organise the lifeguard training for parents (we have been fortunate to have a parent in the school who has the required training to run these sessions for us), the sponsored swim and hiring out the pool.
With the help of parents who have undergone the lifeguard training we are able to open the pool after school and at weekends for use by the children, which proves very popular.
